American Sign Language Interpretation Services RFPDescription: The University at Buffalo (“University”) is seeking proposals for Sign Language Interpretation Services in accordance with the specifications of this Request for Proposal (“RFP”). The University at Buffalo, hereafter known as the “University,” is requesting Bids for Sign Language Interpretation Services. Sign interpreters contracted to enable communication between individuals who are Deaf and those with hearing are called to work in a wide and diverse variety of settings and circumstances. Primarily they interpret class lectures and discussion. Content to be interpreted ranges from introductory through postgraduate courses from any of the many academic and professional disciplines throughout the university. Each of these disciplines has codified its own specialized vocabulary, much of which requires the interpreter to master new advanced concepts with highly specific definitions while collaborating with the student to ensure clear communication. Interpreters also work in private, individualized personal communication between Deaf or Heard of Hearing students and university officials such as academic advisors, counselors, healthcare providers, etc. Occasionally, sign interpreters work at public events, large and small, such as public lectures, academic ceremonies, and dramatic performance. They may be called upon to interpret in a variety of public and private communications for employees and applicants for employment who are Deaf. Interpreters have the administrative responsibility to maintain communication with contracting entities and respond in a timely manner to inquiries and requests for service.
